It depends on your goals, experience level, and how you like to learn!

Our small group Pilates classes are a great choice if you enjoy the energy of a shared space and want to stay consistent with a more economical option. You’ll still receive plenty of personalized attention—our instructors offer clear guidance and real-time modifications to support every fitness level.

If you’re brand new to Pilates, working through an injury, or prefer individualized instruction, a Private Pilates session may be the best fit. It’s a great way to get familiar with the equipment, learn proper form, and move at your own pace with one-on-one support.

Still unsure? Try our Free Intro Class or Shyft Start intro offer to explore both and find what works best for you.

Both styles focus on core strength, control, and stability—but they offer different experiences:

  • Mat Pilates

    • Uses your body weight (and small props)

    • Builds foundational strength and awareness

    • Simple, yet surprisingly challenging

  • Reformer Pilates

    • Uses a spring-loaded machine for resistance and support

    • Offers more guidance, precision, and flow

    • Easier on the joints and great for all fitness levels

At Shyft, we offer both, plus tower and chair equipment—so you can mix it up and experience the full range of Pilates.

Keep it simple and comfortable—you don’t need anything fancy!

  • Wear form-fitting clothes that move with you (like leggings and a fitted tank or tee) so instructors can see your alignment and provide proper cues

  • Avoid loose clothing, which can get caught in the equipment or hide your form

  • Grip socks are highly recommended for safety and hygiene (we have them available at the studio for purchase if needed) Grip socks are required starting July 1, 2025 to all classes

  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated—no need for a mat if you’re taking a reformer class

Wear what helps you feel confident and able to move freely. You’ll warm up quickly, so layers you can remove are a good idea!

We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early, especially if it’s your first visit.

  • It gives you time to check in, meet your instructor, and get familiar with the space

  • You’ll have a chance to ask questions or let us know about any injuries or concerns

  • It helps you settle in and start class feeling relaxed—not rushed

Good news—you don’t need to be flexible to start Pilates. In fact, increased flexibility is one of the many benefits you’ll gain through regular practice.

At Shyft, our classes are designed to meet you where you are. You’ll move at your own pace, with clear cues and personalized modifications from expert instructors. Whether you can touch your toes or not, you’ll build strength, improve mobility, and feel better in your body—one class at a time.

So no, you don’t need to be flexible to begin—you just need to begin.

Absolutely—Pilates is for everyone, and that includes men of all ages and fitness levels.

In fact, many male athletes and professionals use Pilates to improve core strength, flexibility, posture, and injury prevention. At Shyft, our small group classes and private sessions are designed to meet individual needs, regardless of gender or experience.

Whether you’re looking to complement your current workouts, recover from injury, or simply try something new, you’ll feel challenged, supported, and welcomed here.

Everyone’s body is different, but with consistent Pilates practice, many people start feeling results—like improved posture, strength, and energy—within just a few weeks.

Here’s what to expect:

  • After a few classes – Better body awareness, improved breathing, and a noticeable post-class “feel good” effect

  • After a few weeks – Increased core strength, mobility, and overall tone

  • Long-term – Greater flexibility, balance, injury prevention, and a deeper connection to your body

Staying consistent—2 to 3 classes per week—is the key to seeing and feeling the full benefits of Pilates over time.

Pilates can support weight loss, but its real power lies in helping you build lean muscle, improve posture, and feel stronger, more energized, and more connected to your body.

Here’s how it supports your fitness goals:

  • Builds core strength and stability, improving alignment and movement efficiency

  • Tones muscles and increases flexibility, giving your body a longer, leaner look

  • Boosts body awareness and breath control, promoting more mindful, sustainable movement

  • Works beautifully alongside cardio, strength training, and balanced nutrition

Many women—including celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Meghan Markle, and Hailey Bieber—credit Pilates as a major part of their fitness routines. While it’s not a high-intensity fat-burning workout on its own, Pilates is a powerful foundation for sustainable, full-body wellness.
